A Johnson Valley Travelogue

Johnson Valley. The very name elicits a most visceral response in hard-core rock crawlers. Ever since the Victor Valley Four Wheelers first rolled the rocks necessary to navigate the rocky slot of Sledgehammer Canyon, Johnson Valley has come to represent some of the very best of the sometimes strange and always addictive sport we call "rock-crawling". From that original trail known as Sledgehammer, the menu has grown to seven unforgettable courses snaking their way through the rocky washes and gullies of the Hartwell Hills. Johnson Valley is rock crawling. Hard-core, no-holds-barred boulder mayhem.

For all of the fun that has been had in these hills, all the budding rock-holics that aspire to crawl its rugged canyons and all the print and electronic media focused on the area, there hasn't been all that much in the way of a guide. A description of "how" and especially "where" all this fun is to be had would be very useful for extreme rock seekers but to date there hasn't been a single source of complete information. Until now as we will attempt to change that by providing everything you need to know to enjoy the area sometimes called Hard Core Heaven.
